Pancakes for change

Pancakes for change

As it is Shrove Tuesday today, we put into practice our value of 'sharing and caring' and prepared some delicious pancakes in the office to share. Whilst tucking into pancakes laden with lemon, chocolate spread and maple syrup, I was reflecting on the meaning of Lent and how people now mark it in the UK.

Shrove Tuesday was once about preparing for a time of fasting and penetence. Today its more about buying extra ingredients promoted in the supermarket and tucking into a sweet treat.

But what about Lent itself? Is it about giving things up or doing something positive?

At Send a Cow, our work is all about helping people to make changes for the better in their lives. Whether its through training in how to grow vegetables so families can provide better meals for themselves or through helping communities to support each other so they can work together to improve their futures, the people we work with make change every day.

Lent is a good time for us all to reflect on what we can learn from this – by working together and sharing what we have with others, we can make a real difference. It isn’t just about giving something up in our own lives but sharing our blessings with others. All of us can do something to make a difference. To find out a bit more about how you can join us in celebrating Lent this year, why not visit our Change for Lent ideas and see how you can get involved.
