Volunteers get-together
10.06.2010 – posted by Carolyn A
On a recent weekend, over fifty volunteer ambassadors and five members of staff spent a hugely enjoyable two days at their annual workshop weekend in Gloucester. There were many highlights over the two days but the one that stood out for me was an entertaining, lively and informative talk from one of our Ugandan farmers, Margaret Kifuko. She had come to the UK to be a part of our Grow it Global schools project. Her sense of fun and stories of the progress she’d made were heart warming and wonderfully inspiring.
Other highlights of the weekend were the presentations given by two groups of Ambassadors after their recent study tours. Both groups spent around two weeks visiting our programmes in Lesotho and Ethiopia. Again, the stories of farmers and families they’d met, the progress they’d seen and inspirational events they recounted focused everyone’s minds on just how well Send a Cow’s methods really work. Ambassadors also received a presentation given by Martin Geake, Send a Cow’s chief executive, who looked back at recent events and forward to new initiatives, new challenges and new reasons for hope.
All those present enjoyed renewing old acquaintances, making new friends and learning from one another over lunch and during the four workshop sessions. Learning from one another and talking through experiences and ideas was hugely valuable, most encouraging and great fun. Our Ambassadors do us proud and are invaluable to the work we do here at Send a Cow. We are already looking forward to our next workshop weekend, in May next year, and we’ve always room for more!
