Christian values

Send a Cow’s history plays a crucial role in the values which guide our organisation today. The founding UK farmers who sent cows to Africa from their own herds over 20 years ago, did so as a practical way of expressing their Christian faith.

Our Christian legacy lives on today and our work remains inspired and guided by the Bible. With a focus on ‘practical Christianity’, we are deeply committed to helping others, putting their needs before our own and creating a more just and balanced world, as we believe God intended.

Called to help all who are poor, Send a Cow treats everyone in the same way so that people are learning to work together again. This shared opportunity to break free from poverty is more important than differences in beliefs.

Our Christian values

Seeking Guidance

We seek the Lord’s direction in all that we do and this is integral to the way we work. Prayer times are held daily in all our offices. A wide network of prayer, linked through our twice-yearly Prayer Lifeline leaflet, supports us.

Serving the Vulnerable and Disadvantaged

We step out in faith to serve the vulnerable and the disadvantaged in Africa and aim to have a servant heart in all that we do. We aim to demonstrate God’s love and justice along the lines illustrated by Jesus’ story of the Good Samaritan. We believe lives can be transformed quickly by having access to sufficient resources and opportunities to work their ways out of poverty and to become self-reliant.

Respecting All People

All people are made in the image of God and were made to love and to be loved and to flourish. We believe poverty has denied many people choice in their lives – in work, in family life and in the community. We aim to respect all people and to help them restore their self-esteem and give them opportunity to exercise choice. We aim to fight poverty and to give people hope. We treat all people equally regardless of race, gender and creed.

Looking after the Earth

We respect the Earth and all the natural resources provided by God. We are stewards of these resources and we are committed to using them responsibly, in environmentally sound and sustainable ways.

Working in Partnership

We aim to help farmers help themselves and not to impose any solutions on them. We seek a mutual exchange of ideas with farmers in Africa. We aim to provide the UK public with opportunities to help impoverished African farmers attain sustainable livelihoods, thus contributing to global food security and environmental sustainability for all people. We are prepared to work with like-minded partner organisations that aim to help poor farmers restore their lives.

Servant Leadership

Our leaders will have a servant leadership style which aims to empower staff and to encourage participation and learning across the organisation.

Through our projects, we see family relationships, livelihoods, health, dignity and hope for the future restored. Whole communities are renewed.
