Churches

Thought for the day

“Tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”

African saying

We are very thankful for all the support that church congregations give to Send a Cow. Last year, churches helped us in raising an incredible £3.2m as well as joining with us in celebrating special events, and supporting us through prayer.

To help churches get involved, we have resources for Harvest,  a 'Prayer Lifeline' publication and plenty of ideas for raising money as a group. Our online gift catalogue is also a great way for churches to fundraise for us - focusing their efforts to raise enough money for different charity gifts, from goats and cows to seeds and stoves.

For churches who wish to support Send a Cow through regular giving, we’ve developed an exciting new initiative – Training for Freedom. For as little as £25 per month, your church could support the work of a training officer in Africa. Find out more on our Training for Freedom page.

Many churches like Send a Cow's “Pass it On” principle. Every farmer we work with promises to become a donor themselves, giving the equivalent of whatever they received to another family, whether that’s a calf, skills, seeds or saplings.

In this way, Send a Cow gives the greatest gift we can to the farmers we work with – the opportunity to experience the pleasure and dignity that comes with helping someone else. It obviously has huge benefits; the African farmers we work with continually donate livestock and seeds to other poor farmers throughout the year.

Our Christian heritage

Set up by a group of Christian farmers, Send a Cow is proud that some of our founding farmers are still working with us today, helping farmers in Africa, farmer to farmer. This knowledge and experience has proved invaluable, helping us grow into the practical, innovative charity we are today.

Send a Cow is deeply committed to helping others, putting their needs before our own and creating a more just and balanced world. When our founding farmers sent the first cows to Africa they did so as a practical way of expressing their Christian faith and this heritage lives on today – you can read more about our Christian values here.
