Grow it Global resources
To help make your school’s involvement in Grow it Global a real success, we have put together a number of resources that relate to the four main learning themes of:
- Food production and security
- Sustainable development
- Climate change
- Similarities and differences
Project resources
Here are the two key files that will help your participation in the project be a real success. Others useful files can be found at the base of the page.
Introductory document - useful as an introduction to the project for staff, with a timeline sheet to print out.
Core learning document - to guide you through the timeframe and main themes of the project and to give you some ideas for approaching these with your classes.
Learning resources
For a great introduction to all the themes, look around our kid's website Cowforce.com with your pupils – the perfect area for this is ‘Beeko’s Road Trip’. You can also use the 4 Themes activity and Farmer matching activity (adapted from the teacher training), with your pupils as a discussion starter. If your school does not block videos, you can also view the short films at the top right and base of this page.
There are also all sorts of activities on our teacher's website Cowfiles.com - a good place to start is the Grow it Global ‘tag’ page. Here you will find lessons plans and resources linked to food, Uganda and comparing lives etc. You can also find images from some participating Ugandan farms and other photos from Africa in the gallery.
African Gardens resources
We have plenty of resources and information to help you create a fantastic African Garden at your school. Plus, you can use these instruction sheets to show you how to make elements of your garden.
Fundraising ideas
To tie all your Grow it Global learning together in one great art project, we recommend you create an African Farmyard display. We can provide you with a poster and downloadable illustrations of different items found on an East African farm along with plenty of fundraising ideas.
A quick idea would be to hold a 'Mufti' day. Pupils can join in with African farmers by wearing wellies for a 'Wellie-Wednesday', paying £1 to Send a Cow. Or, run a ‘Poosday-Tuesday’, when pupils wear anything brown to raise money so that more African families can have Magic Muck training.
