One Planet, One Future

One Planet, One Future

On 5th June, World Environment Day 2010 is being held in Rwanda, one of the countries that Send a Cow works in, and will focus on the notion of ‘one planet, one future’. This message is at the heart of our work. Every day our team in the UK works with our staff across Africa and with partners all over the world to unite in our mission of lifting poor families out of poverty for good.

Our sustainable farming techniques, such as Bag Gardens, can be used by anyone. We learn techniques from Africa that can also be used in the UK to maximise small spaces, limited water and mitigate against the effects of climate change.

For the impoverished African families that Send a Cow works with, Bag Gardens are literally a life-changing way to grow as many vegetables as possible, making the most of precious resources. A hessian sack filled with a mixture of soil and compost around a central column of stones, bag gardens filter water to vegetables planted in the top and around the sides. Bag Gardens allow people in need to grow food all year round to feed their families.

Bag Garden kits are available to buy online. Remember to unite: we are one planet and there is only one future we all need to work towards.
