A song and a dance for World Poetry Day

A song and a dance for World Poetry Day

Sunday 21st March is World Poetry Day and we celebrate by bringing you verses written by our Aliasit farmer’s group in Uganda.

Reading and writing are at the heart of Send a Cow’s work. Not only do we promote education in Africa, we undertake educational schemes in UK schools such as Read to Feed and Grow it Global. Our work teaches children about the lives and cultures of others and, more specifically, about Africa, climate change, the environment and agriculture. They begin to understand that they can give practical help to some of the poorest people in Africa

In Africa, Send a Cow trainers often use poetry and drama workshops to tackle complex issues such as HIV/AIDS and gender, which require sensitivity and imagination. Poetry can act as an output and help people to communicate their feelings.

The below verses were written to celebrate the work of Send a Cow and the women of the group sang the lines, in recognition of the life changing gifts and training they had received. The words were written with joy and with thanks. They sum up what we’re all about here at Send a Cow.

Love your husband

Love your wife

This is what brings happiness to your home

Love your children

Love your neighbours

Love Send a Cow

If you want love in your heart

The love that never departs

Lift up his name, sing of his glory, Allah

If you want Joy in your home

The joy that never departs

Come to SACU, attend all the trainings, Amen

If you want peace in your families

The peace that never departs

Come to Aliasit, follow the trainings I say!
