Crossing the finishing line of the Africa Rally
13.01.2010
We would like to congratulate the winning team of the Africa Rally - Camervroom - who have crossed the finish line first into the coastal town of Limbe, Cameroon. The other teams are not far behind and I'm sure all participants are looking forward to the week of festivities to celebrate.
All the teams have done an amazing job to raise money and increase the profile of Send a Cow and the work we do helping poor African farmers every day. In Cameroon itself, Send a Cow works with families in the poorest region, the Far North Province, which experiences extreme weather contrasts, suffereing from months of drought followed by intense rain storms. Our in-country team prepares families for these acute climate changes by providing training in water harvesting, and showing them how to integrate livestock such as goats into a sustainable farming system.
The teams have kept us enthralled and amused with their blog updates such as "With Dave having to use all his jedi driving skills we slalomed our way north through nigeria, with the constant stoppages from one of the many authorities and potholes the size of our car', which can be found on http://africarally09.theadventurists.com/
A great big thank you to all involved, every penny really does make a difference.
