Welcome to Read to Feed!
Read to Feed is a fun sponsored reading scheme run by the charity Send a Cow. It is a great way for children to learn about the lives and cultures of others and begin to understand that they can give practical help to some of the poorest people in Africa.
On this site, you'll find all the resources you need to run a successful scheme with your children.
Simply click through the menu to find out how to run a Read to Feed, find advice on getting started, print out supporting documents and view links to other engaging resources from Send a Cow.
Hundreds of schools have found that by giving their pupils a great reason to read, they have seen reluctant readers chomping through more books than they ever thought possible. We hope that you have the same experience!
While your children are reading, they will be helping to feed children in Africa through the passing on of gifts such as cows, goats, trees, beehives and training in natural farming methods. Not only that, if you include any of the titles from our suggested Booklist, they will be learning all about Africa and its people at the same time as they are raising money!
"I chose Read to Feed because it provided the pupils with an added incentive to read lots of books, while raising awareness of the poor in Africa. The girls were thrilled to know that their reading made enough money to buy a whole farmyard!"
