Sunflowers & Tip-Taps
You can add all sorts of things to your school's African garden to bring even more learning, colour and interest.
Sponsored Sunflowers
Sunflowers are a great addition to any garden and are easy to grow, often with very impressive results. They are also grown by many Send a Cow African farmers with uses ranging from firewood to cow 'cake'! So, we have put together a 'Sponsor a Sunflower' kit so that you can grow them with your pupils, find out why African farmers use them and at the same time, raise money for African families living in poverty.
Sunflower Kits
Our kits contain two seed types, 10 coir pots, info on sunflowers and a mini-bag for your most promising specimen, plus a sponsor form. Kits are available at £4.99 each - call to order or use this leaflet and find related resources, such as a gallery of pictures online.
You can grow sunflowers at home or at school and enter your tallest into the African Gardens Competition by sending your official entry form in by 19th September.
Tip Tap handwashers
These ingenious African hand-washers help keep hygiene levels high in Africa. They are part of Send a Cow training, often situated outside a loo or by a cowshed.
And they're also a great thing for pupils to make, and use, in the UK too! You can come up with many different designs, making it a fun project to carry out with children. Plus, you can enter the 'Best Tip-Tap' category in the competition too! When you order any of our kits, you'll find a Tip-Tap sheet included, showing how to build one. You can also find lots of related resources on our Cowfiles.com site too, including pictures of Tip-Taps in action!
