Aimi Kuhlke, Supporter Services Supervisor: “It’s always great to welcome new supporters and we want to say a huge thank you to Joe for buying his first charity Christmas gift from us. Although we can’t say what he has actually bought his mum, we know that she’s going to love it! Joe can be sure that his and every other gift bought from us goes to help families in Africa who will feel the benefits way beyond Christmas Day.”
Is saying ‘Thank you’ important? Very much so – if somebody has gone out of their way to do something for you the least you can do is say thank you! The last person I thanked was the stranger across the road that came out of their house just to offer me help with loading some heavy equipment into the car.
What do you want for Christmas? An iPad – but that’s obviously not going to happen!
Why did you buy a gift from Send a Cow? I always feel like whatever I buy my Mum is a waste of money because I never really know what to get her and I usually find it a few months on, gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere. This year I wanted to get her something which I knew for a fact wouldn’t be a waste of money because it’s going to a great cause and helping people’s lives. I know Mum will love it: she’s really into charity and now she won’t have to pretend she likes some present she’ll never use. I loved the idea of the money going on an actual purchase instead of just sending a donation to charity, which gets lost in the works and will probably be spent on admin anyway!
Typical day: I get up, walk my partner Dorothy to work with Alfie, our one-year-old Japanese Spitz puppy, then chase Alfie around the park and play fetch on the way back. Once I’m home I get to work answering the mass of emails that have accumulated in my inbox overnight, then carry on with whatever I’m currently working on, usually designing an album, editing pictures, or helping a stressed out bride work out her wedding timings!
A little bit about yourself: Very happy. I love my life and love what I do! Love adventures and having fun with my beautiful girlfriend Dorothy, spending time with friends and family.
Favourite book: To Kill a Mockingbird.
Best part of Christmas meal? Three quarters of the way through, when you’re satisfied but not yet painfully full.
What is your Christmas day usually like? Eat until I can’t move then watch TV until my head hurts. I miss the days of spending Christmas day playing with all your new toys!
Weirdest Christmas present? A tyre inflator. Thanks Dad – now I can have lots of fun keeping everybody’s tyres at the correct pressure
Have you ever been to Africa? No.
What is your earliest memory? Christmas morning, going into my sister’s room and examining all of our presents, waiting eagerly for our parents to get out of bed.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? Michael McIntyre – nobody’s ever made me laugh so hard!
What is the most important lesson life has taught you? Do what you want to do! Doing what everybody else tells you to do doesn’t get you anywhere.
