Can your group help transform a community?

Training is at the heart of community transformation. It enables poor African farming families to care for their gifts of livestock; produce crops and vegetables from tired land; and build thriving small businesses. In short, it gives them the ability to free themselves from poverty.

We employ Local Training Officers in all the communities where we work. They are experts in animal management and organic farming, they speak the local language and understand what makes each community tick. Training Officers develop lasting relationships with farmers, always on hand to give practical advice and encouragement. For young orphan groups, they become parent figures, giving guidance on money and keeping safe – and even on relationships.

With your group’s support, we can employ more Local Training Officers – and help communities transform themselves through training.

It costs around £250 a month for us to employ a Local Training Officer to support three groups – well over 100 families. This covers their salary, training materials and other expenses.

Your group can support 'Training for Freedom' by making a regular donation of as little as £25 per month.

You can also make a one-off or annual donation – perhaps of £250 to cover one month’s support.

In return, you’ll receive regular stories to share, showing how Local Training Officers are:

• Assessing the needs of new groups of very poor farmers

• Training farmers in sustainable organic agriculture and animal management

• Providing livestock and seeds and offering ongoing advice

• Training 'peer farmers' so they can bring our methods to more people

• Preparing more experienced groups for ‘graduation’ – when they no longer receive direct support

• Celebrating with groups as they reap their first harvests, pass on animals to others, and leave poverty behind for good
